Butterflies and Lightning Bugs

On the 3rd of July we went to see the fireworks in Munster Indiana. As we were walking to the park, mama found to monarch butterflies curiously attached to each other. Emma loved the butterflies and wanted to bring them home. She then placed them in a plastic bag. Later in the night, Emma said the butterflies are no longer moving. I then held the bag for her. When we returned home, I opened the bag and found them alive. I told Emma that I will let them be free. She said NO! Grandpa then took the butterflies inside. Emma then found out that Grandpa wanted to preserve the butterflies forever. She cried and begged Grandpa not to do it. It was to late. The butterflies will never move again, but we will have them forever.

On another hot Summer night, Grandma, Emma and Annya went for a walk. They brought home a little friend. It was a lightning bug. They released it in the house and forgot to tell Daddy that it was their friend. The bug then met it's fate with the fly swatter. Emma wanted to cry. She then asked if she can get another one tomorrow? I told her yes but that she should keep it in a jar. I don't know what lightning bugs eat, and a life in a jar doesn't seem so promising.
