INVESTIGATORS' NEWSLETTER - June 2008

Hello everyone! We hope everyone is doing well these days. As most of you know, this is the time of year that children transition into the next classroom. We have welcomed Simon from the Adv. room and have briefly said good-bye to Brody, who has moved to the Exp. room. Over the next couple of months, the other children will also be moving over. We will let you know as soon as we have a date of exac-iy when that will be happening. The transition is usually a very smooth one; they are all very independent and capable and ready to move on. And we usually don't mention it until a week or two before the actual move, that way it alleviates any potential anxiety and they are not waiting as long as they would if they knew way in advance. (For them, time is a very abstract concept). Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

We wrapped up our "Physics and Chemistry" unit a couple weeks ago and are very pleased to see that it was a huge success. The children got so into making ramps and their marble mazes; it was great to see their minds at work. Throughout the day, we would hear their questions and predictions about how to make ramps or to make the marbles and balls move. They really worked on their critical thinking skills. And they also enjoyed changing the property of things, such as mixing colors, painting with different mixtures and textures, and mixing water with different materials. They became quite the scientists this past month!

As a group, we have also come up with a set of Classroom Rules to follow in the classroom. This has been great because it gives the children a sense of ownership of the room. They all had great ideas about things to put down. All of the children contributed to it. We have it posted in the classroom, so come and take a look.
